The Elemental Plane of Smoke, while uncomfortable, is technically habitable by most mortals. The air of the plane is breathable, but filled with choking smoke of various compositions. Some regions are filled with the vapors emitted by candles and other mild fires, while others are so clouded with smog from dirty fires that it is difficult to enter.
The majority of the plane is open air, but there do exist small clumps of charred material often referred to as Cinders. Unlike many other planes with floating chunks of material, there are no Cinders larger than about 100 meters. As a result of this, the few settlements of intelligent creatures that exist here are formed by hollowing out and attaching multiple large Cinders to each other to provide a larger living area.
